A New Developmental Language for Working with Children

What began in 2011 as an ongoing collaboration with the Friedrich-Fröbel-Schule has grown into a living exchange between educators, therapists, developmental practitioners and children themselves — shaping many of the principles and relational approaches that now form the foundation of Flowland and the KidSoma Method.

This special training weekend offers a rare opportunity to study live with Alé in an intimate and highly practical setting where developmental understanding, play, somatic navigation and real educational practice meet.

For the first time, participants will also be introduced live to the “Makers of Flowland” — internal companions, developmental forces and constructive functions that help children organize participation, adaptability, creativity, timing, regulation and connection.

One of the unique aspects of the Universe of Flowland is the use of shared symbolic language that helps both children and adults quickly recognize a child’s strengths, challenges and developmental needs without reducing them to labels or diagnoses.

When one of the companions becomes overactive, disconnected or “sleepy,” children and adults gain playful and practical ways to understand what support may be needed — often creating more collaboration, less overwhelm and a greater sense of orientation for everyone involved.

Rather than asking only:
“What behaviour needs to stop?”

this work explores:
What is the child trying to organize — and how can we support that process through play, participation and relationship?”

Why The Universe of Flowland Resonates So Deeply with Children

  • Children quickly recognize themselves in the characters and developmental forces of Flowland without feeling judged or pathologized.
  • Complex inner experiences become easier to understand through playful and relational language.
  • Both children and adults gain shared reference points for understanding stress, strengths, participation and connection.
  • Rather than focusing only on behaviour, Flowland helps reveal what the child may be trying to organize internally.
  • Many children become more collaborative, independent and flexible as they learn to recognize what support they need and when to rest, engage or reconnect.
  • Professionals often experience relief and greater clarity because children’s internal and relational processes become easier to understand and support in real time.

About KidSoma

KidSoma was created by Alé Duarte to help educators, therapists and professionals better understand what children are trying to organize beneath behaviour — and support them with more clarity, adaptability and connection.

Over more than 30 years, Alé has worked internationally with schools, hospitals, humanitarian organizations, therapists and educational institutions, developing practical approaches that combine play, somatic tracking, developmental observation and relational organization.

At the heart of KidSoma is Flowland — a shared developmental language that helps children and adults recognize stress, strengths, participation and creative capacity without reducing children to labels or diagnoses.

Today, KidSoma frameworks are used by professionals around the world who are looking for more practical orientation and more human ways of supporting children in complex times.
